Hills Farm Supplies was a business that started as an idea in late 2010. Michael Bowden & Anthony Pearce had worked together previously and could both see a niche in the livestock market for a business that specialised in ruminant production, from animal health to the manufacturing of specialist stock feeds. There was an opportunity not just to be an advisor in the field but to be the business that delivered results.
Anthony made the comment one day to Michael that he didn’t want to be driving to the airport for another work trip only to see someone had set up the business we talked about. So we decided to have a go. Anthony said “If it all turns to putty you’ll find me picking melons on the Ord River, but if we don’t have a go we’ll never know”.
The concept of being their own bosses and the challenge to succeed in their own business really appealed to both Michael and Anthony. The idea of directly helping farmers and growing a successful business all drove what we are so proud of today here at Hills Farm Supplies.
In February 2011 we opened the doors and haven’t looked back since, we aimed to build a reputation of being ‘top shelf’ when it comes to advice, products and service. We have managed to recruit staff that have added to our skill set and helped grow the business to be stronger and more capable in many fields.
I’m sure looking back we have a few lessons to share about starting from scratch and perhaps a little naivety gave us the courage to do what we did, as it wasn’t all easy. However would we change a thing? Not at all!
